Goaltimate is what would result if half-court basketball and ultimate had a baby. It's a fast-paced, make-it-take-it format featuring 4v4 on a smaller field with a huge, vertical, semi-circular hoop toward one end and a clear line at the other.

Similar to ultimate, passing, scoring, fouls, and turnovers occur, but a number of regulation changes provide distinct incentives for diverse methods. Goals are scored by passing through the hoop to a player in the end zone; the stall is to six; and substitutions happen on the fly.

Goaltimate is thought to have been created on Christmas Day in the 1980s on hard-packed snow by ultimate players at Wellesley High School in the USA since not enough people showed up for practice!

The rules, format, and field layout of goaltimate vary depending on the city or event you are playing in as the sport is still in its infancy. However, you won't notice them, and you can easily adjust.

The initiative to standardized rules and expand the sport across the nation is being led by USA Goaltimate. Compared to ultimate, goalty is played on a much smaller field, so less running is necessary. A pass through a hoop to a receiver who catches it inside the scoring zone is how teams score. Due to possession being "make it, take it" like in half-court basketball, games are played more quickly.
